SERIES: LOOKBOOK.nu x Look Closer (Episode 1)

lookbook

LOOKBOOK.nu has inspired this series that is based on the relationship between a blogger and their photographer. With the rise of street fashion and everyone thriving to get known or popular for their style daily through media such as Tumblr and Lookbook.nu, it is great that this series is created to get a closer look into those people’s lives. The series is based out of Los Angeles, focusing on a girl named Hannah who enters the online fashion blogging world and it follows her experiences from that. Take a look at the first episode called ‘Look Closer’, where Hannah meets her fashion photographer, Mark, but is faced with his ex-muse trying to win back his services. Very interesting and creative series. We will bring you the second episode when it releases on April 8th.

TV: MTV’s Punk’d Returns March 2012

For those of you who weren’t tuned in to MTV on New Years Eve to hear the news and watch the sneak peak of Punk’d, we are letting you know that the comical celebrity hidden camera prank show is returning back on air March 19, 2012. Although the original host, Ashton Kutcher, isn’t coming back other celebrities will take turns hosting the episodes of the show, including Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, Bam Margera and more. Aside from the countless number of reality shows and series filled with baby drama and other boring storylines, it seems MTV is turning it back to a more fun direction as they started with the return of Beavis and Butthead. Do you think they should bring back more comedy shows like Wild’N Out as well? Or more music inclined shows such as TRL and SuckerFree?

NEWS: HBO Cancels ‘How To Make It In America’

HBO cancels one of our favorite shows ‘How To Make It In America’ along with ‘Hung’ and ‘Bored To Death’. Why? Well there wasn’t a decrease in the viewers in comparison to the previous seasons. It’s so upsetting to hear…especially when it took so long for the second season to air along with the fact that there were only 10 episodes per season. HBO hurt us with this one. At least we were able to experience the “Rasta Monsta” era along with the dopeness of “Crisp”. We’re also going to miss Domingo and his weed dealing ways…

DOCUMENTARY: Planet Rock – The Story of Hip Hop and the Crack Generation

VH1 recently aired the documentary “The Story of Hip Hop and the Crack Generation,” and it is a great piece, to say the least. Check it out.

“Narrated and executive produced by Ice-T, “Planet Rock: The Story of Hip Hop and the Crack Generation” is the first documentary to focus specifically on the connections between crack and hip-hop.

Crack first appeared in the early 1980s, but by 1986, it was raging through the inner cities of America like wildfire, leaving pain, grief, and death in its wake. With candid, never-before-seen interviews from survivors, including Snoop Dogg, Cypress Hill’s B-Real, and the Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA and Raekwon, “Planet Rock” examines the hardships young men encountered growing up in impoverished neighborhoods, which led many to deal crack cocaine as their only way out.

From the gold dookie chain to Gucci, many hip-hop artists were influenced by the look and fashion of infamous dealers like Azie Faison in Harlem, who is prominently featured in the documentary, along with Freeway Ricky Ross, the Godfather of Crack in LA. As hip-hop became increasingly popular, the fascination with crime and gangster culture, specifically the violence inherent in crack culture, became ingrained in the music. And soon the very kids dealing crack were turning their street tales into hit records. After serving hard time in jail, Snoop Dogg became the biggest rapper of his day; after a bullet in the back nearly killed him, B Real went legit with Cypress Hill; and after crafting their business model on the crack hustle, RZA and Raekwon turned the Wu Tang Clan into a hip hop empire. As journalist Cheo Choker reflects, “it’s fascinating to think that Jay Z, a global icon who had better seats at President Obama’s inauguration than Jesse Jackson, was once a New York City crack dealer.”
