Vanessa & Angela Simmons | HONEY Mag
The Simmons sisters, Vanessa and Angela, are covering Honey Magazine. The two did a pretty dope fashion spread for the mag along with the interview. They keep you laughing in their hit series “Daddy’s Girls” and “Run’s House”, so be sure to check out some excerpts from their interview here.
Check out their spread and snippets from the interview after the break.
On Building A Brand:
Vanessa - I am extremely ambitious. I don’t think people realize that there are so many things I want to accomplish. I am a loyal person. Unfortunately, being out here in LA — I’ve had my sets of friends and some of those friends are not my friends anymore. Being out here has definitely taught me about myself and I’m as real as they come. Even if it hurts somebody’s feelings, I’m going to tell them the truth. I think that’s what creates strong relationships.
On Being ‘The Tough One’:
Angela - If someone says something hurtful to me, I could break down in five seconds. I’ve been like that since I was younger. I could give you some funny stories. Dumb stuff like being hungry. I don’t know if that’s being sensitive or being a brat. Like my parents are on the way to eat and I would be in the backseat crying, “I’m hungry!!” When it comes to relationships – I’m sensitive. I show my emotions quick. I think it’s a Virgo thing. It’s not something everyone can see, but I am. When I get around people I’m just reading energy. And I’m very into fashion, so people think I’m staring at them but I’m really just looking at their clothes.
On Pastry:
Vanessa - When we first came out I remember they said the meanest things: “Oh, what do they know about sneakers?” We kept working, getting better and learning more. Two years later, the list of things that Pastry is about to foray into is freakin’ mind-blowing. We’re reinventing it.
Angela - We’re re-launching. We had a little clothing out there and now we’re in the middle of remixing and changing it all up. And we have some really cool shoes coming out.
Vanessa - We’re just taking it to a place where we’ve always wanted it to be
Angela - It’s like Pastry redeveloping itself. It’s like a new turnover.
Vanessa - Remix.
Angela - Remix, you wanna say remix – it’s not a song.
Vanessa - Yeah, it’s like Pastry remix.
On Relationships:
Vanessa - We’ve known each other [Mike Wayans] for like four years. I met him in NY, two weeks before I moved to LA. It started out as just friends because I was actually on a date. (Laughs) And then I was just like, Hey, he gets me. We’re both kids of… we understand each other. The weird points when I just want to be by myself, he understands and he wants to be by himself because we both know what it’s like being in families in the public eye. I see other people that put their relationships out there and sometimes it doesn’t work out. And I’m not saying the industry has anything to do with it, because it could just be the people and the way they are, but the media can interfere. And I don’t want it to hurt or help my relationship. I just want it to be what it’s going to be.
Angela - Honestly, I’ve always been like that. I’m not like in your face but at the end of the day I know that I’m a public figure and people know what’s going on. And it’s weird that everyone has to know if I break up with somebody or I get back with somebody or I’m not with somebody. It can be a little weird because they just see you and they don’t really know what’s going on behind closed doors.
On Virginity:
Angela - Ok, the whole virginity thing came out because of the breakup I had previously. And on the show, of course, it came up that I was saving myself for marriage. Is it weird that people know that now? Yeah, kind of. Do I care that much? Not really, because it’s not like it’s a bad thing. No, it’s not for everybody.
